Power Drops First of Second Half

(Kannapolis, NC- June 30, 2015)- The West Virginia Power lost 7-3 to the Kannapolis Intimidators on Tuesday evening at Intimidators Stadium. Brett Austin had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Kannapolis to their first win in five days and stop West Virginia's winning streak at five.

In the top of the first, Jordan Luplow singled and moved to third on a Connor Joe double before scoring on a Michael Suchy groundout for a 1-0 Power lead. The Intimidators evened the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.

In the fourth, Tito Polo singled with two outs and scored from first on a bloop double by Taylor Gushue for a 2-1 West Virginia advantage. The lead lasted until the bottom of the fifth when Kannapolis scored three runs on three hits against Power starter Colten Brewer. Austin led off the inning with a solo home run, John Ziznewski doubled in a run and scored on an Eddy Alvarez sac fly for a 4-2 Intimidators edge.

Kannapolis added a run on an RBI single by Austin in the sixth inning. In the Power half of the eighth, Chase Simpson drove home Suchy to cut the deficit down to two, but the Intimidators plated two in the bottom of the eight to close the scoring.

Brewer (2-5) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on five hits over five and two-thirds innings. Spender Adams (4-4) earned the win with seven innings of seven-hit ball.

The loss was West Virginia's first during the second half of the 2015 season.

Austin Coley seeks his tenth win of the season for the Power on Wednesday night. Coley will be opposed by Kannapolis's Yelmison Peralta at Intimidators Stadium at 7:05 pm. The Power are on the road through Friday and return to Appalachian Power Park on Saturday, July 4, when they host the Delmarva Shorebirds.
