Greenville Drive News Release

Hickory, NC - The Greenville Drive were done in by the long ball in Tuesday's series opener against the Hickory Crawdads, dropping the contest 8-1 after allowing two homers in a six-run second inning.

The big inning began with three singles off Jeffry Fernandez (2-6), the third of which being an RBI hit by Rock Shoulders. Jose Cardona followed with a three-run blast to left to make the score 4-1, and after a walk, Josh Morgan cracked a two-run shot to extend the lead further.

Hickory starter Austin Pettibone (1-1) didn't need much run support, as he held the Drive to two hits and one run over six innings.

Mike Meyers led off the game for Greenville with a triple to right and came home on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0.

The Drive had a golden opportunity to get back into the game in the top of the seventh after loading the bases with nobody out, but Hickory reliever Chris Dula struck out the side to end the threat.

Carlos Arroyo had three hits to lead the Crawdads offense, while Shoulders had a pair of hits as well.

The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:00 in Hickory. The Drive will send RH Reed Reilly (4-3, 3.63) to the mound, while the Crawdads will counter with RH Nick Gardewine (4-5, 4.20).
