Savannah, GA - In a battle of the bugs Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium, the Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-0. The First Hal Champion Gnats are now 1-4 to start the second half.
The GreenJackets (4-2/37-38) scored in each of the first three innings to build a 5-0 lead against starter Ricky Knapp. Catcher Aramis Garcia shouldered the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and a walk.
Augusta rightfielder Dylan Davis greeted Savannah reliever Eddy Villasmil with a solo homer to lead off the fifth inning to complete the game's scoring.
The Gnats (1-4/40-35) had just four hits all night: right fielder Wuilmer Becerra and third baseman Eudor Garcia each contributed two singles.
GreenJackets' starter RHP Sam Coonrod (5-2) took home the win, after tossing 6.0 innings.
Gnats' reliever Cameron Griffin struck out three of the four batters he faced in his one inning of work.
The Savannah and Augusta continue their four-game series. Savannah will send RHP Casey Delgado (3-1, 3.34) to the hill, while the 'Jackets will send LHP DJ Snelten (0-2, 3.72) to the mound for game two. Gates will open at 6 PM and firs pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
