Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Charleston, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws (19-28) were doubled up, 2-1, by the West Virginia Power (27-22) Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. The loss kept the Power undefeated against Lakewood this season, and marked the fourth loss in a row for the BlueClaws.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the fifth it was another pair of doubles that produced the second and go ahead run for the Power. Walker Gourley led off the inning with a double to right off of BlueClaws starter Jonathan Musser. Raul Fortunato followed with a double to right, of his own, scored Gourley, and gave the Power the 2-1 lead.
For the third time in the series the BlueClaws jumped out to a lead over the Power, this time in the first inning. With two down in the inning, it was Justin Dalles that stroked a double to right and plated Chace Numata from third to give the 'Claws the short-lived 1-0 lead.
The Power plated its run in the bottom of the frame on a pair of two out doubles against Musser. Josh Bell hit the first double to center, and Stetson Allie followed with the RBI double to right that plated Bell and tied the game.
Musser (1-1) ended his night after the fifth, but he performed well in his second start of the season. Over the five innings he allowed two runs, both earned, on six hits; he didn't walk anyone and struck out three.
Geoff Broussard and Delvi Francisco combined for three perfect innings on the mound in relief of the starter.
The Power's starter Joely Rodriguez (4-3) allowed just the one run in the first, and finished six innings. In total he allowed six hits, one walk, and he struck out five. Kyle Haynes came on for the ninth and earned his third save.
