Crawdads Plate 14 Runs in Four Innings

HICKORY, N.C. (May 25, 2013) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators couldn't keep pace with the hot-hitting Hickory Crawdads, falling 14-3 on Saturday at L.P. Frans Stadium. Hickory (27-20) scored all its runs between the third through sixth innings to overcome an early Kannapolis (16-29) two-run advantage.

Hickory pulled ahead with three runs in the third and padded the lead with three more in the fourth, highlighted by a Nick Williams two-run home run (8). Williams finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Intimidators starter Jefferson Olacio walked the first two batters of the fifth inning, and two batters later Jordan Akins turned both walks into runs with a base hit. Akins finished with a team-high four hits, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and a team-high three runs scored to lead a Crawdads offense that pounded out 13 hits. The Crawdads plated six runs off Olacio in the fifth inning, as Williams' third hit -- an RBI single -- chased him from the game.

Olacio (1-7) endured his league-lead-tying seventh loss, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits while striking out three and walking a season-high five batters over 4 1/3 innings. HIckory's Connor Sadzeck (3-3 notched the win over 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Michael Johnson drew a one-out walk in the first inning, extending his on-base streak to 19-straight games, equaling the longest by an Intimidator this season. He later scored on a Michael Marjama groundout for an early 1-0 lead.

Micah Johnson drew a leadoff walk in the third and took second base on a passed ball. Michael Johnson singled Micah Johnson to third, and Micah Johnson scored on on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

Michael Johnson's third-inning single extended his current hitting streak to a career-best 10 games. He is batting .450 (18-40) over his last 10 games. Micah Johnson drew three walks and stolen his Minor League-leading 45th stolen base but saw an eight-game hit streak come to an end with an 0-for-2 night.
