Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns (28-17) could not muster much offense Saturday evening as they fell 6-0 to the Lexington Legends (25-24). It was the third time this season the Suns have been shutout and the loss dropped their home record to 13-9.
Lexington scored their first run of the series in the top of the first. Designated hitter Terrance Gore led off the game with a walk. After stealing second base he scored on CF Bubba Starling's single to center field making it 1-0 Legends.
The Legends added to their lead in the fourth inning, scoring two more runs in the frame. Center fielder Bubba Starling led off with a walk and later stole second base. He was brought home by catcher Jin-Ho Shin's single. This was followed by 2B Kenny Diekroeger's double to right field, scoring Shin to make it 3-0 Lexington.
Lexington tacked another run on in the top of the fifth. Gore reached on an error by 3B Wes Schill to begin the inning, and later stole second base, his second steal of the evening. After advancing to third on a flyout by LF Ethan Chapman, Gore scored on a wild pitch by RHP Chris McKenzie, who took over for starter Dixon Anderson earlier in the inning.
Lexington added to their lead again in the seventh inning. With runners on second and third McKenzie uncorked another wild pitch, which brought home Starling from third base to extend Lexington's lead to 5-0.
The Legends increased their lead to the final margin of 6-0 in the eighth. Shortstop Humberto Arteaga started the inning with a single. First baseman Mark Donato followed with another single. After 3B Adrian Morales struckout Gore walked to load the bases. Chapman then delivered a single to right field scoring Arteaga to set the final score.
RHP Bryan Brickhouse (3-3) earned the win for Lexington. Brickhouse pitched seven innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four. RHP Dixon Anderson (4-2) suffered the loss for Hagerstown. Dixon worked 4.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out one.
The Suns will wrap up their four game series against the Legends on Sunday afternoon. RHP Ronald Pena (2-2) will get the nod for Hagerstown, making his eighth start of season. Lexington will counter with RHP Miguel Almonte (2-4), who is making his ninth start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
