Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Greensboro, NC - The Delmarva Shorebirds (22-25) pulled within one in the eighth inning on a two-run home run by Adrian Marin, but fell short as the Greensboro Grasshoppers (19-28) took game three of the series, 3-2, on Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park.
The Grasshoppers scored an unearned run in the first inning. Michael Main led off with a single up the middle. Then, Anthony Gomez dropped a bunt and Nik Balog picked it up and lunged out, but missed the tag on Gomez. From the dirt, Balog threw high to second to try and throw behind Main, who moved to third and then scored as Gregory Lorenzo had trouble picking up the ball in left-center field.
Greensboro added a run in the fifth inning. Yordy Cabrera walked and advanced to third on a double by Viosergy Rosa. Then, Jesus Solarzano singled to left field to increase the lead to 2-0.
In the sixth inning, Mike Vaughn connected on a solo home run to right-center field to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Shorebirds starter Josh Hader lasted 5.2 innings. He yielded eight hits and two earned runs.
Greensboro pitching retired 14 straight batters between the third and eighth innings until Joel Hutter drew a one out walk in the eighth. Then, Adrian Marin blasted a two-run home run to left-center field to trim the gap to 3-2. It was Marin's first professional home run.
Lex Rutledge entered in the sixth inning and hurled 2.1 scoreless innings. He did not allow a hit.
Jheyson Manzueta entered out of the Greensboro bullpen with one out in the eighth inning and got the final five outs to earn the save. With one aboard in the ninth, he induced a 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Balog to end the game.
Greensboro starter Mason Hope earned the win over five shutout innings.
The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers play the series finale on Sunday, May 26 at 4:00pm. RHP Mark Blackmar is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
