
Power Can't Close Greensboro Lead

(Greensboro, NC- June 13, 2013)- The West Virginia Power lost 3-2 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers Thursday evening at NewBridge Bank Park. The Grasshoppers scored runs in each of the first three innings to saddle the Power with the loss.
Michael Main doubled to leadoff the bottom of the first inning against Power starter Orlando Castro. Main moved to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly. Greensboro added a run in the second on a run-scoring single from Mike Vaughn and added a solo home run by Jesus Solarzano in the third to build the advantage to 3-0.
West Virginia plated its' first run in the top of the sixth inning. Josh Bell doubled, moved to third on a flyout, and scored on a ground out. Walker Gourley scored on a balk in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit down to 3-2.
Castro (7-4) took the loss despite notching a quality start. The All-Star allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits over six innings. Ramon Del Orbe (4-3) earned the win, allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on six hits over seven complete innings. Dane Stone worked the final two frames for his second save.
West Virginia's loss coupled with a win by Hickory eliminates the Power from division title contention in the South Atlantic League's first half. West Virginia is now three games back with three left to play. Hickory holds the head-to-head tie breaker, having beat the Power twice in three game this season.
The Power and Grasshoppers continue this four-game series on Friday when Tyler Glasnow battles Matt Milroy at 7: 00 pm. The South Atlantic League All-Star break begins on June 17 with the mid-summer classic to be play on June 18 at Lakewood's FirstEnergy Park.
