Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC--Trailing the Lexington Legends 6-5 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Michael Ramirez came to the plate with the bases loaded. The Asheville Tourists catcher had already connected with a pair of doubles in the game but the home team needed just a little bit more from their backstop. Ramirez delivered in style. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Ramirez roped a ground ball up the third base line just inside the bag. Two runs came in and the Tourists celebrated their second walk-off win of the season.

Lexington took control early with a pair of two-run Homers. One came from Mark Donato and the second from Cam Gallagher. Terrance Gore also scored on an error and back-to-back doubles by Fred Ford and Mark Threlkeld netted the Legends final run. However, all of the damage came in the first four innings.

Trailing 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Tourists slowly crept their way back into the game. Dillon Thomas hit an RBI groundout in the fourth and Matt Wessinger stole home in the seventh. Asheville added one more in the eighth on a Wessinger RBI single but trailed by two heading to the ninth.

After Maw White drew a walk and Rosell Herrera singled to left, Francisco Sosa singled to center to score White. Derek Jones bunted for a single and the Tourists had the bases loaded with no outs. A pop out followed by a strikeout made the comeback effort look dim, but it just set the stage for Ramirez.

Andrew Brown earned the win for Asheville by tossing two perfect innings in relief while Alving Mejias ran his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 13.2 with a pair out shutout innings.

The Tourists and Legends are back in action on Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Gates will open at McCormick Field at 5:30pm.
