
Power Blasts Kannapolis to Even Record Again

(Kannapolis, NC- May 20, 2013)- The West Virginia Power beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 11-2 on Monday evening at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The Power held a 1-0 lead after five innings before scoring five runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to help the club even its' record out at 22 wins and 22 losses.
West Virginia starter Joely Rodriguez matched Kannapolis starting pitcher Jefferson Olacio with four scoreless innings to start the game. The Power put runners on base in every inning against Olacio, but could not manage any runs early on. The Intimidators loaded the bases in the first against Rodriguez before West Virginia's starter settled in.
The Power broke up the shutout in the fifth when Walker Gourley reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a two-base hit by Raul Fortunato. In the sixth, West Virginia sent eight batters to the plate, scoring five runs on four hits and an error. Josh Bell doubled in a pair and Gourley's two-run home run drove the offense to a 6-0 lead.
West Virginia added five more runs in an eight-batter seventh inning. Max Moroff drove in Junior Sosa for a 7-0 lead. Stetson Allie hit a bases loaded, bases clearing double for a 10-0 advantage. Allie then crossed on a double play ball to close out West Virginia's scoring.
Rodriguez (3-3) pitched six shutout innings for the victory. Olacio (1-6) surrendered the first five runs, four of which were earned, and took the loss. Bryton Trepagnier allowed both Kannapolis runs while pitching three innings for his third save of the season.
Eight different players had at least one hit for the Power while four had multi-hit efforts, led by three apiece from Moroff and Allie.
