Peter O'Brien Named SAL Player of the Week

CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston RiverDogs catcher Peter O'Brien received the South Atlantic League Player of the Week Award for games played May 13 - May 19 on Monday afternoon. For the week, O'Brien hit .409/.522/.818 in six games played going 9-22 with two HR, three doubles, eight RBI, 12 runs scored, and seven walks.

The week started out for O'Brien with a perfect 3-3 game with a double, homer, walk, and three runs scored performance on May 13 against the Savannah Sand Gnats in Charleston. He followed that up with a 2-4, two RBI performance the next day. The powerful catcher capped off the RiverDogs sweep of Savannah with a nice 1-2, homer, two walks, three RBI, three runs scored line in the series finale. O'Brien collected at least one hit in all six games he played during the week.

A native of Miami, FL, the 22-year-old catcher was selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Miami. A 6'3", 220 lb. right-handed hitter, O'Brien is the first Charleston player to receive an SAL Player of the Week award this season.

The first place RiverDogs are in Savannah to face the Sand Gnats for an important three game series Monday through Wednesday of this week.
