Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - Rome Braves starter Rafael Briceno pitched seven scoreless innings and reliever Carlos Perez finished the final two frames to combine for a two hit shutout Monday evening at State Mutual Stadium. Rome won the game 6-0 and pounded out ten hits before 1,795 fans.
Rome's lone run in the first, as it turned out, was the only run needed. Jose Peraza led off the inning with a walk, stole second, and later scored on an RBI single by Josh Elander. The Braves scored twice in the fourth on a two run single by Ronald Luna for the 3-0 score. Rome added a run in the fifth and two more in the eighth for the 6-0 final.
Briceno (3-5) enjoyed his best start of the season surrendering just two hits and striking out five Augusta batters to get the win. Justin Schumer (1-4) is tagged with the loss for Augusta.
The Braves play tomorrow at 10:30am for another Education Day. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
