Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA (www.potomacnationals.com) - The Potomac Nationals have announced Edgar Caceres will be taking over the reigns of the team effective immediately. Caceres managed the 2004 Potomac Cannons to a first half championship and their first post-season win since 1995.

He will be taking the place of Randy Knorr who will move up to Washington to become the Washington Nationals' bullpen coach. The vacancy was created when John Wetteland was relieved of his duties in the same capacity on June 15. Knorr posted a 31-36 record this season with Potomac.

Caceres spent five seasons with the Reds organization posting an overall record of 224-225 and led the then Cannons to a 37-32 mark in the first half of the 2004 season. After the team finished third in the second half, the Cannons went on to fall to Wilmington two games to one in the Northern Division Championship Series. The win came at home as the Cannons downed the Blue Rocks at Pfitzner Stadium.

Last season, Caceres managed Sarasota in the Advanced-A Florida State League to a 65-67 record before joining the Nationals organization during the off-season.

One of the members of Caceres' 2004 team, at least for the first half, was Tony Blanco who serves as the current designated hitter for Potomac. Blanco became the first player in Potomac/Prince William/Alexandria franchise history to play for the franchise for two different Major League affiliates when he returned earlier this season. Caceres managed Blanco who went on to play in the All-Star Futures game in '04 and will now become the first manager to be with two different affiliates in franchise history.

Caceres played 55 games for the Kansas City Royals in 1995 where he batted .239 with six doubles, one home run and 28 RBI.

The Nationals open up a three-game series with Frederick tonight at 7:05 p.m.
