TONIGHT'S GAME: The first-place Lynchburg Hillcats continue a seven-game road trip with their final series of the first half against the Salem Avalanche at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium...Last night, Kinston salvaged a series split by defeating the Cats, 9-1 at Grainger Stadium...The Hillcats are in the midst of playing 15 of their last 19 first half games on the road...They are 9-7 to begin that stretch...Salem enters this series on the heels of five consecutive losses...

FIRST HALF RACE: The Hillcats have a magic number of 2 to clinch the Northern Division first half crown over both Wilmington and Potomac...(The magic number is defined as the number of games that a division leader needs to win to ensure winning the division)...Currently, only 2.0-games seperate the top three teams in the Northern Division...Lynchburg can clinch the first half crown tonight with a victory AND a Frederick win over Potomac AND a Winston-Salem win over Wilmington...Interestingly, no team in the division posts a winning record...The only time a team advanced to the CL post-season without an above .500 record was in 1985...The Winston-Salem Spirits captured the Southern Division first-half crown with a record of 35-35...

GROUNDED: The Hillcats matched a franchise-record by grounding into five double plays last night...It marks the third time in franchise history and the first time since 2003 versus Frederick such has occurred...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Ronnie Martinez, 22, is a 5-11, 205-pound right-hander signed by Houston as a non-drafted free agent in 2001. The Dominican Republic native excelled with Lexington (A, SAL) in 2005, posting a 13-3 record with a 3.67 ERA (152.0 ip, 142 h, 73 r, 62 er, 50 bb, 113 k). He tied for the South Atlantic League in wins last season. The year prior, Martinez was named NY-Penn League Post- Season All-Star, NY-Penn League MVP and Topps NY-Penn League Player of the Year. Entering 2006, he has a career mark of 36-10 in four professional seasons within the Houston organization.
