Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif.--The Stockton Ports were excited to unveil their 2010 Fan of the Year, Game Day Employee of the Year, Dallas Braden Community Award, Ports Player of the Year and Ports Pitcher of the Year Awards during Fan Appreciation Night in a pre-game ceremony on Monday, August 30.

Season ticket holder Jim Chapple was named the 2010 Fan of the Year. Chapple has had tickets to the Comcast Club for several seasons, and has also been highly supportive of the Ports Anchor Fund. Chapple has participated in several Anchor Fund events in recent years, including attending the Hot Stove Banquet, Manager's Luncheon and the Fish with a Port tournament. He won the 2010 Fish with a Port tournament with crewmates Ports pitcher Ben Hornbeck and BASS Pro Paul Boudreau.

Public Address announcer Mike Conway was selected as the 2010 Game Day Employee of the Year. Conway, better known to Ports fans as "Mike on the Mic," has been a fixture at Banner Island Ballpark since 2008. He's been rolling "r's" and manning the PA mic with style and flair for every game since he joined the staff.

Left-handed pitcher Trey Barham was named the 2010 Dallas Braden Community Service Award winner. Barham, who also leads the California League in holds and has been a strong arm from the Ports bullpen, has been a positive influence this season in the Stockton community. Barham, who attended the Virginia Military Institute, led the team with nine player appearances this season, and participated in several events to raise funds for the Stockton Ports Anchor Fund. Barham supported heart health by appearing at the Go Red for Women Luncheon, and helped instruct aspiring athletes at the free pre-game Kids Clinic and the Youth Baseball Camp, manned the bar at BJ's Restaurant in the Tip-A-Port event, spoke with students about the importance of education at Lakeside Christian School, and participated in the Fish with a Port charitable tournament during the 2010 season. The Norfolk, Va. native made several other various appearances around the community. Barham is the second Ports player to win this award, after it was established in 2009 to recognize the Ports player who best served the community. The award is named after Stockton resident and Oakland A's pitcher Dallas Braden, who is extremely committed to supporting his hometown in a variety of community programs.

The 2010 Ports Player of the Year award went to shortstop Grant Green. Green has had an outstanding year in his first full season of professional baseball, after being selected by the A's in the First Round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. In 124 games this season, he has batted .313 with 37 doubles, six triples, 18 home runs with 80 RBI and 266 total bases. Green, a native of Anaheim, Calif., has made 108 starts this season at shortstop for the Ports. He leads the club in average, hits and total bases. The University of Southern California product also ranks among team leaders in home runs and RBI. He's ranked among the Top 10 hitters in both the California League and Oakland A's minor league system this season. Green was named the League Player of the Week from August 16-22, and was named a California League Post Season All-Star. Green was also the only Oakland A's representative in the 2010 Futures Game.

Right hander Shawn Haviland was named the 2010 Ports Pitcher of the Year. A Harvard University graduate, Haviland has posted a 9-6 record with a 3.62 ERA in his first 26 games. He leads the team with 159 strikeouts. He is second in the California League in strikeouts and first in the A's organization in that category as well. He also leads the Stockton club with 144.1 innings pitched. Haviland has also walked just 37 batters this season in a team-leading 26 starts. He is fifth in the League with a 3.62 ERA, and also ranks among the top pitchers in the A's organization for ERA. Haviland was named the League Pitcher of the Week for July 26-August 2 and from August 16-22. He tossed a one-hitter on July 29, and combined for a shutout win on August 17, fanning a season-high 11 batters in 6.0 scoreless frames in that game. He was also one of four pitchers named to the California League Post Season All-Star team.

The Ports congratulate Jim Chapple, Mike Conway, Trey Barham, Grant Green and Shawn Haviland on their success this season, and thank them for their outstanding support and performances.
