Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - In honor of Better Speech and Hearing Day at Banner Island Ballpark, the Ports will have one sound-free inning during the game on Sunday, May 22nd to bring awareness to various communication disorders.

California Speech Language Hearing Association will be hosting their fifth annual awareness game with the Ports, which serves as an opportunity for those affected by these disorders to attend the game with their friends and family.

"We love working with the Stockton Ports to bring this event to our community. The event is first rate in terms of raising awareness for communication disorders and creating an accepting environment for those with communication disorders," said Benjamin Reece, Director of Clinical Education at University of the Pacific. "From autism to stuttering, aphasia to hearing loss, communication disorders can be extremely debilitating. The Ports have created an atmosphere where people with communication disorders can forget about the disability for nine innings and enjoy the great American pastime that is summer baseball."

Additional elements of the day include the organization having the opportunity to participate in pre-game ceremonies, a guest PA announcer and radio announcer from the organization, and informational booths on the concourse.

"The Ports look forward to teaming up with California Speech Language Hearing Association for the fifth consecutive year and are excited to add this new element to the day," said Ports General Manager Bryan Meadows. "Through this collaboration, it is our goal to spread knowledge of communication disorders and believe that silencing the ballpark during the game will help raise awareness and honor those who have worked to overcome such disorders."
