Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Tim Locastro hit for the cycle on Tuesday night at LoanMart Field, as the Quakes walloped the Lancaster JetHawks to win their third game in a row, 12-1.
Locastro also extended his hitting streak to a team-high 13 straight games, helping the Quakes maintain a one-game lead over the High Desert Mavericks in the South Division standings.
The Quakes scored their first runs of the night in the very first inning. Erick Mejia led off with the single, and Tim Locastro followed by hitting a double, scoring Mejia to make it 1-0 Rancho. Later in the inning, Matt Beaty hit an RBI single to score Locastro, and Rancho Cucamonga led Lancaster 2-0 after the first inning.
The Quakes offense struck again in the third and fourth innings. Locastro popped a solo home run in the third, his second of the season, to give Rancho a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, Yusniel Diaz led off the inning with a walk, and then with two out, Joey Curletta crushed a triple off the wall in center field to score Diaz and the Quakes led 4-0 after four innings.
Rancho Cucamonga exploded for four runs in the seventh inning, sending nine hitters to the plate. Mejia led off with a walk, and Locastro singled to put runners on first and third and nobody out. Kyle Garlick hit an RBI single up the middle to score Mejia. Beaty then hit a ground ball to Kristian Trompiz at shortstop, and he bobbled it for an error to plate Locastro and make it 6-0. Diaz and Julian Leon had back-to-back run-scoring singles, with Leon's extending his hit streak to 13-games, making it 8-0 Rancho after seven innings.
Lancaster scored their lone run of the night off of Luis De Paula in the eighth inning, and then the Quakes answered with four more runs in their half of the eighth.
Locastro capped off his 4-for-5 night by hitting a triple for the cycle, and then Guerrero, Diaz and Leon all hit RBI singles in the four-run eighth. Beaty hit a sacrifice fly to cap off the scoring to send Rancho Cucamonga to their third consecutive victory.
The Quakes had 13 more hits on Tuesday, giving them 43 hits over their past three games - all wins. Locastro, Beaty and Leon all had multi-hit games, and Locastro became the first Quakes player to hit for the cycle since Alex Verdugo did it on August 26, 2015. Ironically, Verdugo did it against Lancaster.
Leon's two-hit performance on Tuesday night also extended his hitting streak to 13, tying Locastro for the longest hitting streak this year.
Yaisel Sierra (1-1) picked up his first career win, going six shutout innings, allowing just two hits. He walked two and struck out three, in his best outing of the season. Kyle Hooper and
Jeff Malm each threw a scoreless inning of relief for the Quakes.
Rogelio Armenteros (0-1) took the loss for Lancaster after pitching five innings, and allowing four runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out four. The Quakes tagged JetHawks relievers Dean Deetz and Jacob Dorris for four runs (three earned) each. Lancaster committed five errors in the game.
The Quakes (22-10) maintain their division lead over the High Desert Mavericks by one game in the South Division. In game two of the series against Lancaster (11-18) on Wednesday, Rancho will send Tommy Bergjans (2-3, 4.54 ERA) to the hill with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. He will be opposed by Joshua James (2-1, 3.57 ERA) who will pitch for the JetHawks.
?On Wednesday, Terra Vista Animal Hospital invites you to bring your four-legged friends to the ballpark by purchasing a $3 pet pass. All proceeds from the pet pass will benefit the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Shelter. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
