Blaze Offense Stuck in Park

Bakersfield Blaze News Release

For a team that felt pretty good about themselves after splitting a season-high 10 game road trip at the start of this month, the Bakersfield Blaze (12-19) are back at where they started. Anthony Misiewicz (1-3) surrendered four runs in seven innings and the Blaze fell to the San Jose Giants (17-12) 4-3.

One night after Andrew Moore tossed a gem with no run support, Misiewicz was staked to an early lead. Chantz Mack's (2-4) RBI single into center field scored Aaron Barbosa (0-4) in the bottom of the first inning to give the Blaze their first lead in five games. The run also snapped a scoreless streak for the Blaze that reached 18 innings, but it still didn't amount to much.

Bakersfield was given plenty of support by San Jose in a game where the Giants defense committed three errors. Jason Forjet (4-1) had a balk in the first that allowed Drew Jackson to score and Rodolfo Martinez (S, 10) was the victim of a passed ball by catcher Ty Ross that plated Jay Baum in the ninth inning. All three runs for the Blaze were unearned as the Giants only needed one inning to do their damage.

A triple, two doubles, a single, and a couple of walks in the fifth frame did in Misiewicz this evening. The left-hander retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced until that dreaded inning and he never recovered. Jose Vizcaino Jr. doubled to lead things off, followed by back-to-back walks, before Ty Ross came up to bat. Ross doubled down the right field line to tie the game up at 2-2 and then Brandon Bednar's single gave San Jose the lead for good. Ross was 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI in the winning performance. Forjet struck out five batters and scattered four hits in six innings of work.

These two teams will play Wednesday morning at 11am. Dan Besbris will have the call on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
