RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Ramon Laureano reached four times, but Tim Locastro hit for the cycle to lead the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes over the JetHawks, 12-1, in the series opener on Tuesday night at LoanMart Field.
Laureano had a single, double, walk, and was hit by a pitch. He moved his batting average up to .306, good for second on the team behind Nick Tanielu, who scored the lone run of the game for the JetHawks (11-18). Drew Ferguson drove home Tanielu with an RBI double in the eighth inning.
Rancho Cucamonga (22-10) scored a pair of runs in the first inning and never looked back. Locastro's RBI double brought home the first run. He hit a solo home run in the third, singled in the seventh and tripled in the eighth to complete the cycle. His four hits led a 13-hit attack for the Quakes and he also scored four times.
After scoring single runs in the third and fourth to make it 4-0, the Quakes broke the game open with a pair of four-spots in the seventh and eighth.
Yaisel Sierra (1-1) won the battle of Cuban starters against Lancaster's Rogelio Armenteros (0-1). Sierra went six shutout innings and allowed just two hits, walking three and striking out three. Armenteros gave up four runs over five innings for the JetHawks and struck out four.
Lancaster had good opportunities throughout the game, but went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base.
The JetHawks and Quakes continue their three-game series tomorrow night at LoanMart Field. Josh James (2-1) will start for Lancaster against Tommy Bergjans (2-3). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
