Ports Pummeled in Loss to Oaks
June 10, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Stockton Ports News Release
After arriving to Banner Island Ballpark just after 4 a.m. from Lake Elsinore on Friday morning, the Ports looked like a team in need of a good night's sleep after a 10-2 loss to the Visalia Oaks. The loss puts Visalia within a half game of the Ports for third place in the Cal-League North Division.
Visalia did their scoring early and often against Ports starter Ryan Webb (3-4). Webb, who pitched splendidly in his last outing, never found his rhythm on Friday night as he gave up eight of the Oaks ten runs and lasted just three-plus innings. The Oaks brought two across in the first, one in the third, and five in the fourth that proved to be the backbreaker for Stockton. Reid Brignac and Josh Arhart both homered for Visalia in the midst of their first eight runs.
It wasn't all bad for Stockton offensively. Tommy Everidge was the only Port to not reach base, as the Stockton had ten hits on the night. Landon Powell continued his prowess at the plate, chipping in with a 3-for-4 performance with two infield singles and a double. Haas Pratt scored both runs for Stockton, coming around on RBI singles from Cameron Coughlan and Cliff Pennington.
Oaks starter Christopher Mason (6-2) earned the win after getting plenty of support from his mates, going seven full and allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out two.
The Ports will try and end their two-game skid on Saturday as they play Visalia in Game 2 of their series. Stockton will send righty Scot Drucker (5-4, 4.72 ERA) to the mound to square off against Oaks righty Derek Feldcamp (3-4, 7.49 ERA). The first 1,500 fans to enter the gates will receive the second in a set of four Splash bobblehead dolls, courtesy of Delk Pest Control. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
