June 10, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Visalia Rawhide News Release

The Visalia Oaks (30-32) slugged their way to their season-high fifth win a row 10-6 over Stockton Saturday Night at Banner Island Ballpark. With the win, the Oaks overtook Stockton (29-32) for third place in the Northern Division for the first time since April 17th.

The Oaks did all of their damage against Ports starter Scot Drucker. Down 2-1 entering the third inning, the Oaks scored five times. It was the second night in a row that the Oaks put together a five run inning. With two outs and two on, Chris Nowak lined the first pitch from Drucker into the top of the BBQ area beyond the visitor's bullpen for a three run HR to put Visalia up 4-2. Nowak, who had a big night, was 3-3 with two doubles, a HR, three runs scored and three runs driven home. After a John Jaso single, Josh Arhart lined a homerun past the short porch in right to put Visalia ahead 6-2.

The Oaks extended their lead by a run in the fifth inning to 7-2. Chris Nowak doubled and then John Jaso doubled against the wall in right-centerfield driving home Nowak. Nowak and Jaso had back-to-back doubles in the third and fifth innings, each time accounting for a run.

The Visalia offense finished up in the fifth. Up 7-3, Pat Cottrell and Fernando Perez reached with one out. Reid Brignac then launched a towering fly-ball HR onto the grassy berm in rightcenter putting Visalia ahead 10-3. It was Brignac's second straight game with a homer.

Stockton closed to within four runs with a three run bottom of the sixth against Derek Feldkamp. The big shot was a 2 run HR down the leftfield line from secondbaseman Gregorio Petit. Petit was 2-3 with a pair of HR and a walk. Stockton, like Visalia, had three homers, but where Visalia had a pair of three run shots, and a two run HR, accounting for 8 runs, the Ports three homers included a pair of solo HR and a two run shot, accounting for 4 four runs for Stockton.

The Oaks bullpen of Brian Allen and Nick DeBarr held the Ports scoreless over the final three innings. DeBarr threw a perfect ninth with a strikeout and didn't let the ball out of the infield.

Game three of this four-game series is Sunday at 1:05 PM. Two lefties, Visalia's Jino Gonzalez (1-4, 5.65) and Stockton's Trent Peterson (0-4, 7.02) will make spot starts.
