San Jose Giants News Release
San Jose failed to score in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. With Modesto's 7-0 win over the Bakersfield Blaze, the Giants lead in the California League Northern Division decreases to five games. The Quakes pushed above the .500 mark, as they hold a 31-30 record for the 2006 season. San Jose drops to 37-25 overall.
Rancho Cucamonga struck for a run in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings off of San Jose starter Jesus Reina (3-3). Josh LeBlanc knocked home the Quakes first run with two out RBI single in the 2nd. Rancho Cucamonga used the long ball for their final two runs, as the Quakes top two home run leaders, Sean Rodriguez and Drew Toussaint, went deep. Both home runs were solo shots.
After allowing three runs in the first four innings, Reina settled into a groove. The lefty shut down the Rancho Cucamonga offense for the remainder of the contest in firing his first complete game of the season. The Quakes managed only 3 hits and no runs in the final six innings, but the Giants offense could not produce any run support for the left hander.
Rancho Cucamonga starter Amalio Diaz extended his consecutive innings without allowing a run to 11 2/3 innings. The right hander has not allowed a run in his two starts for the Quakes this season. Marcus Sanders and Julio Cordido were the only San Jose hitters to record multi-hits games. The speedster Sanders singled, doubled, walked, and stole a base in Friday night's game.
The Giants and Quakes continue their three game series on Saturday evening. San Jose starter Caleb Salankey (0-0, 5.56) squares off against Francisco Rodriguez (1-5, 4.29) in Saturday's contest. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00. Don't miss Saturday's game as the San Jose Giants will be giving away logo baseballs sponsored by the Camino Medical Group to the first 1000 fans the Camino Medical Group. Kids will be available to participate in a free baseball clinic sponsored by Hardtke. Registration starts at 2:30, and the clinic will run from 3:30 to 4:30. Tickets for the contest are available online at www.sjgiants.com or by calling (408) 297-1435 ext. 15.
