Oaks Stand Tall Again in Win Over Ports

June 10, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif- The wind was howling on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Unfortunately for the Stockton Ports, these weren't the winds of change; as for the second straight night they allowed ten runs in a 10-6 loss to the Visalia Oaks.

Long Ball was the name of the game on this night, as six baseballs left the yard at the BIB. The first of the night came off the bat of Luke Appert in the bottom of the first, giving Stockton the early 1-0 lead. The other two Ports homers came from Gregorio Petit, who hit one in the second to make it 2-1 and a two-run shot in the sixth to bring the Ports to within four.

Visalia, much like they did on Friday night, had a big five-run inning that served as their catalyst in a ten run performance. In the top of the third, the Oaks brought five across on a three-run homer from Chris Nowak and a two-run jack from Josh Arhart. Their other big blow came in the sixth, when shortstop Reid Brignac placed a three-run homer on Sprint Home Run Hill in right-center and rounding off the scoring on the night for the Oaks.

All ten Visalia runs came at the hands of Ports starter Scot Drucker (5-5), who also yielded all 12 hits while walking three and striking out two. Drucker was hurt terribly by the long ball as eight of the Oaks ten runs came on just three hits; the homers from Nowak, Arhart and Brignac. On a brighter note, Joel Posey and Brad Sullivan combined for three scoreless and hitless innings out of the bullpen for Stockton.

Oaks starter Derek Feldcamp (4-4) evened his record after going six innings and allowing six runs on 12 hits. Six of the Ports' 12 hits off Feldcamp fell for extra bases.

Stockton will try and earn their first win of the series against Visalia on Sunday at Banner Island Ballpark. Lefty Trent Peterson (0-4) will take to the mound for the Ports and try for his first win on the season. He'll be opposed by another lefty, Jino Gonzalez (1-4) for Visalia. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m.
