Modesto Nuts News Release

STOCKTON, CA : The Ports entered Friday's game as the best home run hitting team in all of minor league baseball, and they flexed their power hitting four late homers in a 9-1 defeat of Modesto at Banner Island Ballpark.

Big league rehabber Adam Rosales led off the 6th with a solo homer against Tyler Anderson to break a 1-1 tie, and the Ports caught fire from there. Max Muncy followed with a solo shot of his own to make it 3-1, and two batters later a single from Antionio Lamas finished Anderson's night. Will Rankin entered in relief and wasn't able to slow the Ports as he gave up a 2-run homer to Tony Thompson to make it 5-1.

Stockton added four runs against Rankin in the seventh as Muncie hit his second homer of the night, this time a 2-run shot, and the Ports continued to pile it on from there as they totaled nine runs on 12 hits.

Anderson (0-1), who didn't allow a hit through the first three innings, was charged for a season-high four earned runs on six hits in his first loss of the year.

TJ Walz (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Drew Granier for the victory. Walz moved in line for the win after the four-run outburst by the Ports in the sixth.

Modesto had several chances to pull away with an early lead, but Granier worked out of several jams. In the first, the Nuts loaded the bases with no outs, but Granier promptly struck out the side to get out of trouble. Modesto plated their only run in the third on a two-out RBI double from Trevor Story. The Nuts struck out 13 times in the contest, and stranded 10 on the bases.

The two teams will return to Banner Island Ballpark tomorrow night for game three of a four-game series. Modesto (8-8) will send RHP Chris Jensen (0-2, 4.76) to the hill, opposite RHP Blake Hassebrock (0-1, 8.49) for the Ports (10-6). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. You can listen to all of the action online at ModestoNuts.com, with Alex Margulies providing the call.
