Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Hawks won two of three games over the weekend, with Alex Schoenborn helping lead the team to their two victories. On Saturday in Seattle he registered his first career hat trick, including a highlight-reel goal where he scored from his stomach, to pace the Hawks to a 5-2 win over the Thunderbirds. Last night against Tri-Cities, he scored the game-winning goal in the third period to give Portland a 4-3 win over the Americans.

His four goals over the last two games have helped him set a new career-high in points this season (37), while tying his career-high in goals (18). Schoenborn is a San Jose Sharks prospect, having been taken by the Sharks in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft.

Schoenborn wasn't the only player with three points Saturday in Seattle, as Jack Dougherty had a trio of assists in the Hawks' win that night. He added an assist last night and is up to 37 points this season, fifth among WHL rookies and tied for ninth among all defensemen in the league.

Right behind Dougherty in those categories is fellow blueliner Caleb Jones, who had three points over the weekend to raise his season total to 36 points, tying him for sixth among first-year players and tying him for 11th among defensemen.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

After a busy January that saw the Hawks play nine games in just over three weeks, the team will not play at home again for nearly two weeks. They next home game will be Friday, February 5 when Seattle comes to town for the George Morlan Plumbing Supply Mascot Night. Many of Tom-a-Hawk's furry friends will be in attendance to entertain fans and play an intermission hockey game. Tickets are still available at Winterhawks.com and ticketmaster.com.
