Fourth Annual Rockets Skate a Success

January 25, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release

The fourth annual Kelowna Rockets skate took place at Black Mountain on Sunday January 24th. The event started off with a $10,000 donation to the YMCA which was the total money raised from the accumulation of Black Mountain's charity events in 2015. The main even then began, a team from the Kelowna Minor Hockey association faced off against the Rockets on the outdoor rink up on the mountain.

It was a fun, family-friendly event where fans got change to meet, skate, and talk with the Rockets while enjoying hot dogs, hot beverages and even got to roast marshmallows with their favourite player. Black markers were a hot commodity as autographs were signed throughout the day which ended up with a lot of jersey looking more black than red and green.

Event organizer Greg Vinton wasn't sure the skate would have gone ahead if it weren't for the dedicated, around the clock work of the team up at Black Mountain.

"We've got great staff here, the golf course staff they come and maintain it, and we had two residents who were getting up at three and four in the morning to make sure this was all still going"

The Rockets meanwhile enjoyed a day out in the community before they resume the final two games of a five game home-stand on Jan 29th against the Portland Winterhawks.
