Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Calgary, AB. - Veteran netminder Jordan Papirny of the Brandon Wheat Kings has been chosen the Vaughn Western Hockey League Goaltender of the Week.

A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, the 19-year old Edmonton product posted a 2-0-0 record with two shutouts in leading Brandon to back to back wins this past weekend against the Raiders and Pats in Prince Albert and Regina respectively.

Papirny was named the game's first star in backstopping the Wheat Kings to a 3-0 win over the Raiders on Friday and followed that up with a 22-save performance in a 4-0 victory in Regina on Sunday.

By recording three shutouts during his last four appearances, Papirny has moved into a tie with Andrew Hayes for second place on the club's all time list for shutouts. Only Tyler Plante - who recorded 12 as a Wheat King - has earned more.

Currently in his third season with Brandon, Papirny has compiled an 86-37-10-7 record in 143 career WHL games.

He's also moving to within striking distance of Robert McVicar and fifth place all time on the club's list for both games and minutes played.

Papirny and the Wheat Kings, who open up a 3-game Alberta road trip Friday night in Edmonton, currently lead the WHL's Eastern Division with a record of 30-13-2-2.

Meanwhile Giorgio Estephan of the Lethbridge Hurricanes edged out Brandon's Reid Duke for Player of the Week honours. Estephan scored three times and added five assists for the Eastern Conference leading 'Canes. Duke meanwhile scored five goals in three games.
