Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks will take on the Kamloops Blazers in the second round of the playoffs beginning this weekend. While it's the first playoff meeting between the two teams since 1995, they have a long postseason history. From 1982-1995 Portland and Kamloops met in nine series and one round robin round. The Hawks won four of the series, including the 1987, 1989 and 1993 West Division Finals to advance to the WHL championship series in each year.

WHL Player of the Week Ty Rattie leads the league in playoff scoring after registering 10 goals and three assists for 13 points in the four-game sweep of Kelowna. His 10 goals tie him with Dave Waldie (1986 vs. Spokane) for second in franchise history for goals in a series, behind the 13 Jeff Rohlicek had in 1984 vs. New Westminster. However, those marks were set in nine-game series. Rattie's 10 goals is a record for a four-game sweep, three better than the previous mark of seven set by Marian Hossa against Brandon in 1998. Linemate Sven Bartschi picked up nine assists in the series, third in franchise history and also the most in a four-game sweep.

Rattie's 10 goals also have him more than halfway to the franchise record for goals in a playoff year. That record was set by Dan Woodley when he had 19 goals in 19 games in the 1987 playoffs. The team record for points in a playoff year is 37, set by Dennis Holland in 19 games in the 1989 playoffs.

Rattie is one of several Hawks players rising up the team's playoff leaderboard. His 39 career playoff points ties him for 14th all-time among Hawks players, and his 21 goals is tied for seventh in that category. Bartschi's 38 career playoff points is tied for 15th in team history, and his 26 assists ties him for 14th with Nino Niederreiter in that category. In addition, Joe Morrow's 26 points is tied for ninth all-time for scoring among defensemen.

The line of Bartschi, Rattie and Marcel Noebels also set another record: all three topped the previous high for plus/minus in a series. Bartschi finished +11 against Kelowna, while Noebels and Rattie were both +10, all of which beat the previous high of +8, set by Dan Hulak against Prince George in 2001. The all-time record for a playoff year is +15 by Andrew Ference in 1998.

Along with the offensive totals, Mac Carruth continues to extend his multiple goaltending records, leading the franchise in playoffs wins (22), games (36) and minutes (2105), while his two shutouts is one behind Lanny Ramage for the lead in that category.
