Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday that they are returning defenseman Joe Morrow to the Winterhawks. Morrow had played in four preseason games, registering a goal and three assists for four points, tying him for the team lead among defensemen. That leaves Ryan Johansen and Nino Niederreiter as the lone Hawks left with their NHL teams. The Blue Jackets announced that Johansen will be on the team's opening day roster, while the Islanders have yet to announce their final roster. Both players can play up to nine regular season NHL games before the first year of their contract becomes guaranteed.

Ty Rattie and Brad Ross are both off to hot starts for the Winterhawks, with Ross leading the team with nine points in five games, while Rattie has eight points in four games. Rattie's six goals leads the WHL, with five of those coming on the power play, also a league-best.

While Rattie has been deadly on the power play, the Winterhawks have also been outstanding on the penalty kill so far this season. They've given up just one power play goal this season, going 15-16 on the penalty kill, with the 93.8% success rate tied for top spot in the league.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

Brendan Burke, Brendan Leipsic, Derrick Pouliot and Tyler Wotherspoon will be among the Winterhawks players appearing at the 390 Northeast Burnside Road Les Schwab location in Gresham Wednesday afternoon signing autographs and meeting fans. The event runs from 4 - 6 p.m. and will include appearances by Rosebuds dancers and outdoor street hockey, weather permitting.
