
Calgary Hitmen this Week: Hitmen Host Red Deer Friday

CALGARY HITMEN NEWS AND NOTES
HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen play game two of a three game home stand when they host the Red Deer Rebels Friday night at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Hitmen are coming off Sunday's 4-2 win over the Kootenay Ice in the Adrenalin Source for Sports Home Opener. Trailing 2-1 in the third period, Calgary scored three unanswered goals in a come from behind win. Victor Rask and Danny Gayle led the Hitmen scoring attack with a goal and an assist each. However it was Brooks Macek who scored the game winning goal, breaking a 2-2 tie with less than seven minutes remaining. Kenton Miller had the other Hitmen goal, scoring into an empty net with ten seconds left. Brady Brassart chipped in a pair of assists. Calgary outshot the Ice 26-18 including 8-1 in the third period. Brandon Glover made 16 saves to record the victory.
VS RED DEER: Friday is the first of six meetings with the Rebels. Last season Red Deer won the season series taking five of six meetings. The Hitmen and Rebels won't meet again until Sunday, January 22nd in Calgary.
KING ROACH: On September 26th Hitmen defenceman Alex Roach signed a three-year entry level contract with the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. Roach had been participating in Kings training camp on a tryout basis.
STREAKS: Jaynen Rissling (2a), Brooks Macek (1g 1a), Victor Rask (2g 2a) and Brady Brassart (3a) all have points in back-to-back games. Cody Sylvester is a combined +4 in his last two games while Victor Rask is +3 over that same span. Justin Kirsch (2g 1a) and Alex Gogolev (2g 1a) both had their two game streaks snapped in Sunday's home opener.
CARRYING THE PLAY: The Hitmen have outshot their opponents in all three games and in six of their nine periods this season.
LOTS OF PRACTICE ICE: The Hitmen have played the fewest games of any team in the Eastern Conference at just three. Prince Albert, Swift Current, Regina, Kootenay and Brandon all have five games under their belt.
JERSEY AND HELMET AUCTION: The Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer campaign is back for another season supported by TELUS Calgary Community Board. Fans can bid on game worn black and pink jerseys along with pink helmets by going to http://www.elevateauctions.com/hitmenhockey. Net proceeds go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The auction closes Wednesday, October 26th at 9:00 p.m. MST. The Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer game is October 29th when the Hitmen host the Everett Silvertips.
AUTOGRAPH SESSION: Following every home game this season a Hitmen player will be signing autographs at the Booster Club table located behind section 211. Signing following Friday's game will be forward Jimmy Bubnick.
AHL TRYOUT: Hitmen 20-year-old defenceman Ben Wilson is in the American Hockey League attending a tryout with the Lake Erie Monsters.
2010-11 GRADS: The three 20-year-old graduating Hitmen from last season have all continued their hockey careers elsewhere: Tyler Fiddler is in the CIS with the University of Calgary Dinos, Kris Foucault is at Minnesota Wild camp while Misha Fisenko is in the KHL with Novokuznetsk Metallurg.
DRAFTED PLAYERS: Brooks Macek (6th round Detroit), Victor Rask (2nd round Carolina 2011).
OFF SEASON MOVES: July 20 - Hitmen acquire 17-year-old Chris Driedger (G) from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for a third round pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. July 28 - Hitmen claim 20-year-old Kenton Miller (LW) off waivers from the Spokane Chiefs. August 18 - Hitmen acquire 18-year-old Brady Brassart (C) from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a fourth round conditional pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. September 15 - Hitmen trade 18-year-old Kyle Schmidt (D) to the Saskatoon Blades for a fourth round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
CHL IMPORT DRAFT: Hitmen selected 18-year-old Victor Rask (C) from Sweden 3rd overall in 2011 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft and 19-year-old Alexander Gogolev (RW) from Russia with their second round pick, 60th overall.
REGULAR SEASON CAREER WATCH: Brooks Macek needs three assists for 100 and is two games shy of 200.
