Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks have a 2-0 lead in their first round series against the Everett Silvertips with 11 goals in two games. The team has been led offensively by five points apiece from Ryan Johansen and Nino Niederreiter, which ties them with three other players for the league lead in playoff scoring going into tonight ‚¬â„¢s games. While Johansen and Niederreiter have led the way, it ‚¬â„¢s been a balanced attack that has seen 13 players register at least a point in the two games, with seven players with two points or more.

In net, Mac Carruth has been sensational, with a 32-save shutout in Game 1 and 37 saves on 39 shots in Game 2. His 97.2% save percentage leads all WHL goalies thus far in the postseason, while his 1.00 goals against average is second.

Defenseman Taylor Aronson is tied for the playoff league lead with a +5 rating in two games (along with Saskatoon ‚¬â„¢s Marek Viedensky). Aronson posted a +36 rating in the regular season, second on the team and 15th overall in the WHL. Through two games, every Winterhawks player has posted at least an even rating.

The Winterhawks lead the WHL thus far in playoff attendance after 8,363 fans attended Saturday ‚¬â„¢s Game 1 and 6,119 attended yesterday ‚¬â„¢s Game 2. It continues a trend that saw the Winterhawks average 9,597 fans per game in the four March regular season games, and average 8,382 fans since the start of February. Overall the Winterhawks averaged 5,594 fans per game during the regular season, a 26% increase over last season.

Groups can reserve tickets to a possible Game 5 Saturday night at the Rose Garden now by calling the Winterhawks ‚¬â„¢ ticket office at 503-236-HAWK. If a Game 5 is to be played, all tickets will go on sale as soon as it becomes official after Wednesday ‚¬â„¢s Game 3 or Thursday ‚¬â„¢s Game 4.
