Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks have won four of their last five games to remain in fourth place in the Western Conference despite playing in a volatile U.S. Division where just seven points separates Everett, Portland and Spokane. One reason the Winterhawks have won four of five is their penalty kill, which has gone 19-22 in that span. That 86.4% success rate would stand as the top mark in the league over the course of the season.

While the Winterhawks are locking down opponents on the penalty kill, their top line of Chris Francis, Luke Walker and Ty Rattie has been on fire. Francis had eight points in the team's three games this weekend, and finished the month of January with 22 points in 13 games. His 66 points on the season is one short of the career-high he set last year, and now has him ninth in the league in scoring. With an assist Sunday, Walker ran his scoring streak to 11 games and finished January with 17 points in 11 games. Meanwhile, Rattie had points in all three games this weekend, and finished January with 12 points in 11 games.

With Ian Curtis out over the weekend with an upper body injury, Mac Carruth stepped in and played all three games in three nights. He stopped 103 of the 112 shots he faced, a save percentage of 92.0%, while earning wins Saturday against Seattle and Sunday in Vancouver.
