Glennie Wins Tip Top Award

Brandon, Manitoba - Dallas Stars' first round draft choice Scott Glennie has been chosen the Tip Top Tailors Wheat King Player of the Month Award winner for the month of January.

Entering Wednesday night's game against the visiting Red Deer Rebels at Westman Place, the 18-year old Winnipeg product who was the eighth overall selection in last June's National Hockey League Entry Draft, is tied for 18th place in the Western Hockey League scoring race with 22 goals and 60 points in 49 games.

During the month of January, Glennie led all Wheat King scorers with eight goals and 19 points and enters the week riding a personal 6-game point scoring streak that has seen him score six times and set up another nine for 15 points.

Five of those six games have been Brandon victories, including four on the road last week as the Wheat Kings continue to battle the Saskatoon Blades for top spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference. Winners of five straight games, Brandon is currently one point behind the front running Blades with a record of 36-16-0-3.

Recently honoured as the WHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 24th, Glennie is in his third season with the Wheat Kings and during his career he has 188 points including 76 goals in 165 games.

In recognition of the monthly honour, Glennie will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings during Friday night's game against the Kootenay Ice.

In other Wheat King news, the Precision Toyota Community Cruiser is on its way to Souris Monday night for another Coca Cola - Source for Sports Minor Hockey Caravan. Shayne Wiebe, Matt Calvert and Brenden Walker will be skating alongside members of the Souris Minor Hockey Association. Meanwhile Paul Ciarelli and Mark Schneider will be travelling to Austin on Tuesday for another CIBC Read to Succeed visit at Austin Elementary School.
