Portland falls to the Senators 6-4

(Portland, ME) - The Harrisburg Senators (61-65) completed a series victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (60-66) with a 6-4 win on Monday night at Hadlock Field in front of 6,314 fans. Portland dropped 3 of 4 to Harrisburg and 5 of 7 on the homestand. Both the Sea Dogs and Senators are 5.5 games behind a playoff spot.

LHP Atahualpa Severino (4-0) worked 1.1 innings of relief on two hits and two strikeouts to earn the win. In the ninth inning, 1B Lars Anderson reached on a walk and C Luis Exposito, who represented the tying run, flied out to deep left-center field to end the game. RHP Drew Storen notched his 6th save in six Double-A games with two scoreless frames.

LHP Kris Johnson (0-1) returned to Portland from Triple-A Pawtucket (3-13, 6.35 in 22 starts with PawSox) and suffered the loss for the Sea Dogs. Johnson was charged with nine hits and five runs (four earned) over 5.2 IP.

Harrisburg scored twice in the first inning off Johnson on two hits and a walk. CF Michael Daniel led off the game with a walk and scored on 3B Matt Whitney's single to right field. With runners at first and third, 1B Chris Marrero produced a run-scoring ground out to first base. The Sea Dogs cut the deficit in half on RF Jason Place's RBI single, scoring 1B Lars Anderson in the bottom of the second inning.

The Senators extended their lead to 4-1, picking up two runs in the third. Marrero led off the frame with a double and moved to third base on a double by RF Ricardo Nanita. C Luke Montz knocked in the third run with a single and LF Bill Rhinehart grounded out to first, scoring Nanita. With two outs in the fifth, Marrero singled and Nanita doubled into the left-field corner. Marrero scored when C Luis Exposito's throw back to the mound after a called strike sailed over the head of Johnson.

DH Jon Still drove in his organizational-leading 83rd with a double in the fifth inning to score SS Iggy Suarez, cutting the Harrisburg lead to 5-2. Still broke a franchise record with his 37th double, surpassing OF Brandon Moss, who had 36 in 2006. Place clubbed a 2-run homer to dead center field in the sixth inning to bring Portland within a run at 5-4 but 2B Leonard Davis added a run-scoring double in the ninth inning of RHP Richie Lentz.

Notes...Exposito picked up his 6th multi-hit game of the season in 15 Double-A starts...Before the game LHP Derrick Loop was assigned to Portland from High-A Salem...RHP Jarod Plummer was placed on the disabled list...Nava has hit safely in 13 of 16 Double-A games, going 2-for-3 and picking up his 7th multi-hit game of the season...Johnson has not won a start in his last 9 starts between Pawtucket and Portland...Place's homer was his first at Hadlock Field and his third of the season.
