New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, today announced that the original New Hampshire Primaries uniforms, worn only three times in the team's six-year history, will be auctioned off on Monday, August 31, when the Fisher Cats play their final 2009 regular season home game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium against the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, at 7:05pm.
Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Fisher Cats Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to bettering the lives of our youth by supporting Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) and providing annual scholarships to New Hampshire and Massachusetts high school seniors. The Foundation will, in turn, donate a portion of the proceeds to help defray the cost of ongoing cancer treatment for Jamie Gorneault, wife of Fisher Cats outfielder Nick Gorneault, at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.
"Jamie and Nick are important members of our family, and we have grown to admire them for their love and courage during this very difficult time," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner. "Jamie's strong spirit and bravery in battling this terrible disease, and Nick's ability to be a supporting husband while still taking the field for the team all season has served as an inspiration to so many people."
Fans can place online bids at www.nhfishercats.com between now and 2pm on Monday, August 31, for the authentic Primaries uniforms. The high bids from the online portion of the auction will serve as the opening bids for the live in-game auction during the Fisher Cats/Sea Dogs game at 7:05pm on Monday, August 31. The Primaries uniforms will be on display on the concourse during the game, with the auction closing at the conclusion of the seventh inning.
The Fisher Cats first played as the Primaries, the original name of the Double-A club when it was founded in 2003, on August 25, 2007. The red, white and blue uniforms made subsequent appearances on the Fourth of July in 2008 and 2009. Several major leaguers have donned the Primaries jerseys over the years, including Ricky Romero, Travis Snider, Jesse Carlson and Brett Cecil.
The first 2,000 fans on hand for the August 31 game will receive a free Ted Williams Bobblehead, courtesy of the Ted Williams Museum.
The Fisher Cats open their final homestand of the regular season on Tuesday night, August 25, at 7:05pm against the Harrisburg Senators. The first 1,000 fans in attendance at Merchantsauto.com Stadium will receive a free Gary Cathcart T-Shirt. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
