FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Strong pitching and early offense carried the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 4-0 win over the Lake County Captains on Saturday night. A crowd of 7,526 saw Adys Portillo earn his fifth win of the year, as he limited the Captains offense to three hits over his six innings of work, striking out four.

Fort Wayne (2-0, 33-39) scored four times in the first against Lake County (0-2, 31-40) starter Elvis Araujo (2-6). The Venezuelan lefthander surrendered three straight singles to begin the game, and then walked Lee Orr with the bases loaded to force home the evening's first run. Yeison Asencio then grounded out, giving the TinCaps a 2-0 advantage. Two batters later, Duanel Jones singled home two more runs to make the score 4-0.

Portilo (5-4) faced no more than four batters in any of his six innings. He snapped a personal two-start losing streak, did not walk a batter, and lowered his Midwest-League best ERA to 1.76.

James Jones hurled two scoreless innings behind Portillo, and Luis De La Cruz fired a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Fort Wayne plays Sunday for a series sweep against Lake County. The scheduled starter for the TinCaps is righthander Colin Rea, and the Captains are set to throw righty Joe Colon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 PM.
