Lake County Captains News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Fort Wayne TinCaps (2-0, 33-39) used a four run first inning to sink the Lake County Captains (0-2, 31-40) by a score of 4-0. In the first frame, three straight singles loaded the bases with no one out. Captains starter Elvis Araujo walked Lee Orr and that forced in a run, which made the score was 1-0 Fort Wayne. Yeison Asencio hit a ground ball to second base, which knocked in another run, and it was 2-0 Fort Wayne. The dagger was a two run single by Duanel Jones and that made the score 4-0 Fort Wayne after one inning. That is all the offense that the TinCaps needed as the four run lead held up and the final score was 4-0 Fort Wayne. This was the seventh time the Captains were shutout on the season.
RHP Adys Portillo (5-4) took to the mound for Fort Wayne and earned the win. Portillo twirled six innings and allowed just three hits and did not allow a run and he also did not allow a free pass and struck out four. James Jones pitched two innings he allowed one hit and walked one. Jones also fanned one Captains hitter. Luis De La Cruz pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the ballgame.
LHP Elvis Araujo (2-6) got the start for the Captains, and was saddled with the loss. Araujo pitched just four and two thirds innings and allowed five hits and four earned runs. Francisco Valera pitched two and a third scoreless innings in relief and struck out one. Antwonie Hubbard entered in the eighth and pitched a one-two-three inning including one strikeout.
The Captains will continue the six game road trip Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne. Lake County will send RHP Joe Colon (5-7, 3.29) to the hill. The Tin Caps will counter with RHP Colin Rea (1-3, 2.61) who will get the start. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05pm
