Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The River Bandits' Colin Walsh tied Miguel Sano of Beloit for the Midwest League lead with his 15th home run of the season and the Quad Cities bullpen threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings of three hit-ball to give Quad Cities their sixth consecutive win, 4-2, over the Peoria Chiefs Saturday night.
Quad Cities left-hander Hector Hernandez lasted just 4 2/3 innings, his second-shortest outing of the season, and allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out two. Robert Stock (4-0) came on in relief, and allowed three base hits over 2 1/3 innings of work, but did not allow a run.
The River Bandits (2-0, 37-34) opened the scoring in the top of the first when Colin Walsh hit his 15th home run of the season to left field off Peoria left-hander Gerardo Concepcion (2-5). The lefty suffered his second loss of the season at the hands of the River Bandits. In two starts, he has lasted just 5 1/3 innings and allowed ten runs, five earned, on eleven hits and four walks.
Peoria (0-2, 35-36) answered back with a run in the bottom of the first when second baseman Zeke DeVoss scored on a wild pitch by Hernandez with Paul Hoilman at the plate. After Hernandez walked Hoilman, he ended the inning by getting Wes Darvill to pop out.
An RBI single by Quad Cities third baseman Neal Pritchard in the fourth gave Quad Cities a 3-1 lead and a wild pitch by Concepcion with Matt Williams at the plate allowed the fourth, and final, River Bandits run to score.
The Chiefs scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Hoilman off Hernandez that scored Pin-Chieh Chen from second. After facing one more batter in the inning, Stock came on in relief of the left-hander.
An eighth-inning error by the Peoria second baseman DeVoss allowed Colin Walsh, who led off the inning with a walk, to score and make the score 4-2. Ricky Martinez pitched a perfect eighth to earn his first hold as a member of the River Bandits and Heath Wyatt came on to earn his 11th save of the season, and second in as many days.
The six-game winning streak sets a season-high for Quad Cities. During this winning streak, the River Bandits bullpen has allowed just three earned runs in 25 innings of work (1.08 earned run average).
Quad Cities and Peoria conclude their series Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Left-hander Kyle Hald (3-3) will start for the River Bandits and right-hander Michael Jensen (7-3) is scheduled to start for Peoria.
