October 6, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Saginaw Spirit News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - The Saginaw Spirit traveled to Erie to take on the Otters to wrap up a three-game road swing. Saginaw looked to make it a perfect road trip after they won the first two games of the trip.
Arizona Coyotes prospect Ivan Prosvetov was strong in net for the Spirit. Prosvetov kept the game scoreless early when Erie's Chad Yetman took a pass at the top of the slot and was stoned by a quick glove save. Saginaw had three power plays in the first period against Erie. The Spirit had 48 seconds of 5-on-3 hockey midway through the period but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. Saginaw outshot Erie 9-8 in the first frame.
Saginaw's Nicholas Porco opened the scoring just 1:33 into the second period. New York Islanders' prospect Blade Jenkins made a great pass from behind the net that Porco finished. Reagan O'Grady provided the secondary assist on the play. Nicholas Porco added his second goal just 33 seconds later. Porco gave his best Peter Forsberg impression with a one-handed deke past the Erie goaltender. Duncan Penman provided the primary assist on the play along with Blade Jenkins.
Emmett Sproule put the Otters on the board at 6:31 in the second with the assist going to Christian Girhiny. D.J. Busdeker scored his first of the year for Saginaw's third goal. Saginaw first round pick Cole Perfetti made a nice pass to the front of the net on the Busdeker goal, with Aidan Prueter getting the second assist on the goal.
After a Detroit Red Wings' prospect Reilly Webb slashing penalty, Erie's Gera Puddubnyi cuts the Spirit lead to one with a goal on the power play with five minutes remaining in the second period. Kyle Maksimovich and Christian Girhiny provided the assists on the Erie goal. The second period would end with a Spirit 3-2 lead.
Erie tied the game just 49 seconds into the third period when Petr Cajka scored his first OHL goal. Maksimovich and Poddubnyi each got their second points of the game with the assists. Saginaw Spirit team Captain and Minnesota Wild prospect Damien Giroux tipped in a goal from the front of the net off a beautiful pass from Friday's overtime hero, Albert Michnac. Cole Coskey got the secondary assist on the Giroux goal. Prosvetov came up big late in the third period. With Erie's net empty, Coskey's skate blade fell out causing what was essentially a 6-on-4 situation, Provsetov made several saves to keep the score 4-3 to end the game.
