Playoffs Return To Utah Wednesday
April 13, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Goaltenders Dual
Grizzlies goaltender Mike Mole has suffered two tough luck losses in the first two games of the playoffs. Despite an 0-2 record, Mole has a 2.06 goals-against-average and a .948 save percentage stopping 73 of 77 shots. However on the Alaska, side, J.P. Lamoureux has stopped all 68 shots he has seen from the Grizzlies shutting them out in both playoff games. Overall, Lamoureux has shutout Utah in four-straight games on 116 shots. Lamoureux was named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Year and finished second in the league's MVP voting.
Looking To Breakout
Not only was it rare for the Grizzlies to be shutout in two-straight games but also for their captain. Grizzlies captain/forward Ryan Kinasewich, has gone scoreless in three games just once since joining the Grizzlies in 2005-2006. The drought took place in games November 8, December 5 and 6 of this season. However, that stat can be misleading with Kinasewich being hurt November 8 and leaving halfway through the contest while he only played on special teams December 5 and 6.
Shot Lead
Kinasewich led Utah with 11 shots in the two games in Alaska.
Dan McDonald MIA
Grizzlies rookie forward Dan McDonald, who tied an all-time Grizzlies high with four goals in the season finale April 4, was not with the Grizzlies in Anchorage for games one and two and is expected to rejoin the team for Friday's game four. He is currently back at the University of Ottawa completing six final exams. McDonald signed with Utah at the conclusion of his college career on March 4.
Against The Aces
The Grizzlies are 2-2 against Alaska this year at the E-Center after dropping their seventh-straight game in Anchorage Saturday night. Utah defeated Alaska 7-3 October 24 and 5-2 April 4 while losing 5-0 to the Aces on October 25 and 3-0 April 3.
Penalty-Killing
The Grizzlies penalty-killing unit has been a big part of keeping them in both games thus far. Utah is 10-11 on the pk versus the Aces in games one and two.
Another 2-0 Series
The winner of this best-of-seven series will meet the winner of the Victoria/Idaho series. The Salmon Kings walked into Boise and took a 3-1 decision from Idaho Saturday and shutout the Steelheads 2-0 Sunday.
