Danbury Trashers News Release
DANBURY, CT--Two nights after squandering a 3-0 lead in the 3rd period, the Danbury Trashers made sure that nobody from Roanoke would light the lamp as Jayme Platt stopped 23 shots in a 3-0 shutout of the Vipers on Friday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.
The second annual Teddy Bear Toss was resolved quickly as John Osborne scored his first goal as a pro at the 4:16 mark to give Danbury a 1-0 lead, which remained until the 3rd period.
Despite a scoreless second period, the game stayed exciting and physical as the Trashers and Vipers combined to rack up 48 of the 81 penalty minutes in the contest during the second stanza.
The Trashers started quickly in the final frame as Sergei Durdin netted his first of the season just 35 seconds into the period. Jamie Thompson would add another on the power play at the 11:23 mark from Mike Omicioli, who finished with a pair of assists.
Jamie Hodson saved 32 of 35 shots as the Vipers fell to 8-11-4 with the loss, while Danbury improved to 15-7-3 with the win and are currently two points behind the Adirondack Frostbite for the top spot in the UHL East Division.
The Trashers will face off in Roanoke on Saturday night at 7:30pm and again on Sunday at 5:00pm. The Trashers return home on Wednesday December 28th against Richmond at 7:00pm from the Danbury Ice Arena. The Trashers are also holding a special for the New Year's Eve/New Year's Night games against Richmond and Adirondack.
