December 16, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
DANBURY, CT - The Danbury Trashers jumped ahead of the Vipers early with a first period goal from John Osborne at 4:16 and never looked back, getting solid goaltending from Jamie Platt, who handed the Vipers their first shutout of the season.
The Trashers offense kept the pressure on Jamie Hodson and the Vipers throughout the match, but especially in the second and third periods, out-shooting the Vipers in each, 13-7 and 15-7. Hodson was able to hold Danbury off through the second period, but allowed two third period goals to Sergei Durdin at the 0:35 mark and Jamie Thompson at 11:23. Hodson made 32 saves and looked steady in the net for Roanoke, but the Vipers offense was quieted by Platt, who stopped all 23 Vipers shots.
The two teams began to get physical, combining for 81 penalty minutes including five major penalties, a 10-minute misconduct, and a game misconduct. The teams will surely continue their physical play into the weekend as they head down the interstate to Virginia for games three and four of the four-game set.
The Vipers, now 8-11-4 (20 points), fall back to fourth place in the Eastern Division, as the third-place Richmond RiverDogs earned two points in a win Friday over the Flint Generals. The Trashers will follow the Vipers' bus back to the Roanoke Valley for the third and fourth games of the set on Saturday, December 17th at 7:35p.m. and Sunday, December 18th at 5:05p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center.
