Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs got their offense back on track on Friday night with a convincing 5-1 win over the Missouri River Otters at the Rockford MetroCentre. The line combination of Greg Barber, Preston Mizzi and Robin Big Snake combined for 4g-4a-8pts. Goaltender Michel Robinson was solid, turning away 27 Missouri shots to earn the win.
After a scoreless first period, Mizzi put Rockford on the board at 8:16, backhanding a rebound past Kevin Reiter. The Hogs extended the lead to 2-0 at 19:04 when Barber buried a breakaway off of a pass from defenseman Tom Zabkowicz. For Zabkowicz, it was his first career point. The Otters would cut the lead in half just 19 seconds later when center Damian Surma flipped a breakaway shot past Robinson.
Missouri buckled in the third period as Rockford poured in three more tallies. Rookie winger Chaz Johnson buried the first of the frame for the Hogs at 4:08 on a pretty pass from fellow rookie Yannick Tifu. Big Snake, another Hogs rookie, then made the score 4-1 when he banged home a Barber pass at 11:11. Big Snake later put the finishing touches on a dominating third period with a breakaway goal, his 11th of the season
Reiter was overwhelmed with 45 shots faced, turning away 40 of them in the loss. Both clubs finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play. Big Snake notched his team-leading fourth multi-goal game of the season. The IceHogs suited up 10 rookie skaters.
