Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Devils killed off a four-on-three penalty during the final 2:25 of overtime and Joe Whitney scored the game-winning goal out of the penalty box, giving the Devils a 4-3 win against the Norfolk Admirals. Whitney had been called for hooking at 3:35 to breakup a two-on-one opportunity in the defensive end. After serving his two minutes, the Devils winger took a pass from Rod Pelley and beat Jason LaBarbera farside with 21 seconds remaining in overtime.

The win Friday at Scope Arena pushes the Devils (30-25-5-6) winning streak to three games and moves them within five points of the Worcester Sharks, who currently occupy the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Whitney led all scorers with two goals and an assist. Raman Hrabarenka and Scott Timmins also scored. Between the pipes, Scott Wedgewood made 29 saves for his 11th victory of the season. He has helped the Devils registered points in four of his last five games, going 3-1-1-0.

Albany's winning streak was in jeopardy when Norfolk's Kevin Gagne scored with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game 3-3. The Devils had established their lead thanks to Whitney's first period goal at 4:11, Hrabarenka's second period tally at 19:59 and Timmins third period goal at 12:10.
