Providence Bruins News Release
HARTFORD, C.T. - The Providence Bruins were shut out by the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-0 Friday at the XL Center. Hartford scored multiple goals in each of the first two periods, and added some insurance in the third.
The P-Bruins had the first great scoring chance of the game, not even a minute in. Brian Ferlin-- in his first game for the Bruins in more than a month-- had a 2-on-1 chance on the right doorstep, but the puck bounced over his stick into the corner. A few minutes later Andrew Cherniwchan had a one-timer from the slot that hopped over the crossbar atthe tail enf of a 3-on-2. The Wolf Pack got on the board first with a shot that was tipped twice in the slot before it bounced off of Jeremy Smith and into the cage. Tyler Brown got credit for the goal at 6:58. Almost ten minutes later, Colin Stuart capped a 2-on-1 with a shot off of the near post. The Rangers' affiliate gathered the puck and turned it into a 2-on-1 of its own, with Brown hitting the near post. Ryan Haggerty buried the rebound from the right side to double the home team's advantage.
Justin Vaive scored in the first 0:30 of the second period to put the home team up by three. He scored on a secondary rebound right in front of the cage, and that forced Smith out of the game. Joey Crabb was the first (and only) player to score on special teams, as he launched a pair of bids on Malcolm Subban on a shorthanded breakaway. Malcolm made the initial save, but the rebound made it 4-0 Hartford.
Ryan Bourque scored a five-hole goal on a wrister from the left side to make the Wolf Pack lead five early in the third, and the Bruins couldn't muster many more decent chances against Skapski and the Hartford defense.
The Bruins will play on the road again Saturday night in Portland versus the Pirates at 7:00pm.
PROVIDENCE GOALTENDING:
#30 Jeremy Smith (8 saves on 11 shots)
#47 Malcolm Subban (16 saves on 18 shots)
