Oklahoma City Barons News Release

UTICA, N.Y. - Hunter Shinkaruk scored a goal and had an assist for the Utica Comets, who handed Oklahoma City its sixth consecutive loss, downing the Barons 4-2 Friday night at Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Remaining at 82 standings points, the Barons are fifth in the AHL's Western Conference and second in the West Division, trailing the San Antonio Rampage by four points, pending the Rampage's Friday night result against the West Division's last-place Iowa Wild.

Making his 21st consecutive start, Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit fell to 21-18-4 on the season, stopping 38 of 42 shots.

Cal O'Reilly gave the Comets a 1-0 lead at 11:33 of the first period when he pushed the puck past Brossoit after grabbing the puck in front of the Oklahoma City net following a wraparound attempt by Shinkaruk.

Utica extended its lead to 2-0 when Cory Conacher grabbed a pass from Bobby Sanguinetti in the neutral zone and skated just past the Barons blue line before firing a shot past Brossoit's blocker at 3:54 of the second period.

Sixty-one seconds later, the Comets took a 3-0 lead when Alex Biega sent a pass from the slot to the right circle, where Shinkaruk ripped a one timer over the glove of Brossoit.

After a turnover in the Oklahoma City zone, Utica's Wacey Hamilton grabbed the loose puck near the blue line and wristed a shot past Brossoit for a 4-0 Comets advantage at 11:03 of the second.

Jason Williams scored the first goal for the Barons, netting the puck with a shot from the Utica slot at 18:31 of the second with Oklahoma City on the power play stemming from a double-minor assessed to Utica's Darren Archibald at 15:21 for checking to the head and unsportsmanlike conduct.

Mitch Moroz added a second goal for the Barons at 12:55 of the third to cut the Comets' lead to 4-2, when he tipped a shot by Jordan Oesterle past Utica goalie Joacim Eriksson. On the play, Barons forward Jackson Houck was credited with an assist for his first career AHL point.

The Barons next travel to Glens Falls, N.Y., where they will face the Adirondack Flames in a 6 p.m. CST start on Saturday, March 28, at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
