
Capitals Re-Assign Dmitry Orlov to Hershey for Conditioning Purposes

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have re-assigned defenseman Dmitry Orlov to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) for conditioning purposes, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Orlov missed the first 74 games of the 2014-15 season with a wrist injury.
Orlov, 23, has registered 31 points (six goals, 25 assists) and 37 penalty minutes in 119 NHL games with Washington. The Novokuznetsk, Russia, native was drafted by the Capitals in the second round, 55th overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft. Orlov registered 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and 10 penalty minutes in 54 games with Washington last season and recorded his first career multi-goal game on March 2, 2014, with two goals against Philadelphia.
Orlov registered 44 points (12 goals, 32 assists) and 48 penalty minutes in 76 career AHL games with Hershey. The 5'11", 210-pound defenseman appeared in 11 games with the Bears in 2013-14, earning nine points (three goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes, and earned an AHL career-high four points (one goal, three assists) on October 19, 2013, at St. John's. Orlov helped lead Team Russia to a gold medal at the 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, recording nine points (one goal, eight assists) in seven games and was named to the tournament All-Star team. In addition, Orlov has represented Russia at the 2014 World Championship, the 2010 World Junior Championship and was one of Russia's top three performers at the 2009 Under-18 World Championships.
