Pittsfield Earns Second Straight Win

NEWARK, NJ - Miguel Flores pitched seven strong innings and his teammates back him up with a pair of four-run innings as the Pittsfield Colonials downed the Newark Bears 9-2.

Pittsfield scored the first run of the game in the second when a Scott Knazek single brought home Johnny Welch for a 1-0 Colonials lead.

The Colonials would use the long ball in the fifth inning to extend the lead as both Scott Knazek and Angel Molina homered, sandwiched around a sac fly from Danny Bomback as Pittsfield plated four runs for a 5-0 lead.

The Bears got on the board in the sixth on back-to-back solo homers from Brandon Watson and Juan Martinez to slice the Colonials lead to 5-2. The Colonials got the runs back in the ninth as they scored four runs to create the final margin.

Miguel Flores (2-7) earned the win for Pittsfield allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out seven. Casey Gaynor (4-2) took the loss for Newark.

Game two of the series comes up on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. Chad Paronto (5-5, 4.15) will get the start for Pittsfield against Chris Vasami (5-3, 6.56) for Newark.
