Can-Am League Game Recaps

August 1, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Pittsfield 9, Newark 2

The Colonials got home runs from C Scott Knazek and 1B Angel Molina in the fifth inning, turning a 1-0 advantage into a 5-0 lead over Newark. The Colonials went on to win, 9-2. Knazek finished the night 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Pittsfield 3B Billy Mottram led all players with three hits in four at-bats with two runs. The Bears picked up two scores in the sixth on back-to-back jacks from LF Brandon Watson and 2B Juan Martinez. But another four runs from Pittsfield in the top of the ninth put the game out of reach. Starting Pittsfield pitcher Miguel Flores earned his second win of the season, striking out seven batters in seven innings with two runs on six hits.

New Jersey 7, Quebec 0

Jackals 2B Myron Leslie went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI in New Jersey's 7-0 win versus Quebec on Monday. Leslie now is hitting .333 on the season. With Leslie taking care of the two-baggers, New Jersey RF Chris White covered the other extra-base hits, registering a triple and a homer to highlight his 2-for-4 night. The Jackals used four pitchers to shut out the Capitales, with starter A.J. Wideman picking up the win. Wideman struck out five and allowed just one hit and three walks in five innings. The New Jersey bullpen nearly equaled Wideman's performance, giving up just two hits in four frames.

Rockland 8, Worcester 2

The Boulders set the tone early against Worcester on Monday. Just two batters into the bottom of the first, Rockland 3B Ryan Mollica hit a two-run homer to put his club on the path to a five-run inning. Rockland went on to win, 8-2. Mollica had three RBI and a run on his 2-for-4 night. Starting Boulders pitcher Will Hassett struck out eight Tornadoes batters and allowed one run on four hits and four walks in seven innings of work. Rockland C Scott Clement joined Mollica as one of four Boulders batters with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. After the .500 night, Clement's season average sits at .302. Rockland led by as many as eight before Worcester put a run on the board in both the fifth and eight innings.

New York 6, Brockton 5

The Federals led 6-1 in the ninth and seemed poised to cruise to an easy win. But Brockton seemed to have other plans. The Rox got a three-run homer from Keith Brachold to pull within one run with only one out on the board. But Federals reliever Mike Mullen did just enough to preserve his team's win, getting Rox Steve Vranau to fly out to end the game with the bases loaded and New York on top, 6-5. The Federals got a big night from 3B Brad Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Both Jackson's RBI came in the first inning, when he doubled in Steve Detwiler and Jacob Fabry. For the Rox, Brachold went 3-for-3 with a run and four RBI.
