New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, N.J. - On Monday, New Jersey Jackals' southpaw James Leverton was named the Pointstreak Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week. This is the third Player of the Week award for Leverton this season.

The resident of Flower Mound, Tex., tossed his first career complete game shutout against the Pittsfield Colonials in the 2-0 win in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, July 30. Leverton allowed only a hit and a walk while striking out four Pittsfield batters. The 25-year-old is 8-4 on the year with an earned run average of 2.38. He is second in ERA and third in wins.

Leverton also earned the award on July 3 and July 10.

An eighth-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2008 out of Texas Tech, Leverton combined to go 10-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 49 relief appearances in 2010 as he split the season between three levels in the Cubs' minor league system. He spent his first three professional seasons with the Cubs, advancing as high as Double-A before joining the Jackals for the 2011 campaign.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2011 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
